About

Hello.

So who am I. This is not an easy subject to write about. I know me better than anyone else, my likes, dislikes, wants, dreams, aspirations. But what to tell?

Sooooo here goes. I am a wife, mother, speech-pathologist. There, done. More? ooookkkaayyy.

I have been providing speech therapy for 20+ years. I obtained my degree’s from Northern Arizona University, then began working in the Phoenix area, which is where I’ve been thus far. Like many when I went to college I didn’t know what I wanted to do. I took an interest inventory and Speech Pathology kept coming up. After my first intro class, I was hooked. I couldn’t decide between Speech or Audiology. I don’t know why it never occurred to me before, as I was ‘deaf’ when I was born. HUH? Yes, during the first year of life (supposedly) I was ‘deaf’. My parents were concerned with why I didn’t turn to sounds, I didn’t startle when the dogs barked, etc. They had me tested at the University of Arizona as an infant and from what they said, I was severely hearing impaired. My grandparents started researching specialized schools for me to attend, but then miraculously I could hear. They never took me back for any follow-up exams because I started hearing the dogs, my parents, etc. I actually have very good hearing now. My children can’t figure out how I hear all of what they are getting into. I have them convinced, I have supersonic hearing.

What could cause this? How could this be? I really don’t know. My mother did have an emergency appendectomy when I was six months gestation. Could this have affected my hearing? Still don’t know. Doesn’t really matter. Here I am.

I have always been very interested in technology, low tech and high tech. I have worked mostly with young children, and children with severe handicapping conditions. These populations have allowed me to be crafty, and do art extension activities, which I love. I usually try out my activities with my three wonderful children, who always give me tips and good insight on how to do things better. My therapy groups always love coming to Speech, to work on their goals. I love sharing my ideas with those that I work with, now I am sharing with you. If you have any ideas on how to make any of my ideas and materials better, please feel free to return the favor.
